Laura Oberg

Laura Oberg, MFA, LMSW, CSW-Intern, RD, RYT-500 earned her Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Nevada, Reno. During this time, she gained valuable experience working with veterans at the VA with a focus on trauma and PTSD, and individuals with perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) at Thrive Wellness Reno. Before joining the field of social work, Laura spent over 18 years as a Registered Dietitian, with a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University. Her nutrition specialties included eating disorders, pediatric nutrition, oncology, and enteral/parenteral nutrition. She spent much of her training on the East Coast at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, and later obtained her Master of Fine Arts degree from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. She was involved in a collaborative visual arts project that provided education to physicians on signs of child abuse and the reporting process. 


As a mental health therapist, Laura uses an integrative approach to help people navigate complex mental health challenges, with an emphasis on healing from trauma. She is EMDR trained, and has undergone extensive trauma-informed yoga therapist training. She strongly believes that each individual is unique and powerful. To provide the most effective therapy, she uses a person-centered approach to ensure clients are involved in their own treatment decisions. Her approach is informed by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), yoga and art therapy. She works with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. 


In her spare time, Laura can be found taking her cat for a walk, painting, reading science fiction thrillers, or exploring the Sierra with her family.
